Feeding Programmes

Kipawa began at Mukuyu School by funding a feeding programme and moved on to feeding children in Oaklands school for a period and now in Mutundu school as well.

Children attending the schools receive a porridge breakfast and a nutritious lunch. Between these two meals they receive 80% of their recommended daily nutrition. These meals cost around 20p each!

The feeding programme has a number of benefits.

Families living in poverty send their children to the school so that they can eat. The financial burden of having a child is reduced by the feeding programme and children who might not otherwise go to school, have the benefit of an education. Children who are well-fed are healthier and can concentrate better in school

Since Kipawa was established in 2010, the Mukuyu school roll has increased from 400 to over 700. The headmaster puts much of this down to the work the Kipawa feeding programme is doing in the school.

It costs around £2 a month to feed a child at Mukuya, and we are providing over 250,000 meals a year to children in the school. The impact that has on each child's education and their family's life is immeasurable
