Thank you to the 27 donors who dug so deeply and donated over £3,600 for our new Kickstarter class. There were a few donors who were exceptionally generous – McGinness Associates, Main Street Consulting and Sam McGinness - so a special thanks to them. For those of you who don’t know, the Kickstarter class will aim to help reintegrate children who have dropped out of school or who have never attended school in the first place, back into the school environment. These are often the kids who are least well off and they will benefit from a smaller class size, focussed intervention and dedicated social worker support. Once they are ready the children will rejoin their peer group in regular classes. The great news is that we have raised more than our target and so we will be going forward as quickly as possible to get this new class off the ground. The first step will be to build a new classroom for the class – our success with the feeding programme has meant that the other classrooms are very full. At the same time, our partners in Kenya will be identifying children who would benefit most from the programme. We will keep you posted as the work progresses. In the meantime, here’s a message from the kids. Four weeks ago we launched our Christmas Appeal to raise £2,500 to fund a new Kickstarter class at Mukuyu school. I am delighted to let you know that we have raised £3,168.75 which is well over our target and will allow us to help even more vulnerable children get back into school and kickstart their education. The Virgin Money Giving page is still open if you haven't managed to give yet, or donations can still be made into our bank account: Barclays Bank Sort Code: 20-29-23 Account Number: 3368750 Please mention “Christmas Kickstarter Appeal” in the reference. So this is what the children want to tell you. They say it so much better than we could.
On behalf of everyone at Kipawa and all the staff, pupils and families of Mukuyu School thank you for giving the gift of education this Christmas. Kipawa's Christmas Appeal this year is raising funds to support a new 'Kickstarter class' in Mukuyu School. A Kickstarter class is designed to help reintegrate kids that have missed large parts of their schooling back into the school environment. These are often the children who are least well-off and who will benefit most from the smaller class size, social work support and focussed intervention to Kickstart their education. So far, we are delighted to say we have managed to raise £2,046.25 – over 80% of the total of £2,500 needed to set up the class! Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed so far.
We know it's an expensive time of year for many of you, but please support us if you can – whatever you can give will really make a difference to the lives of all the children that get a second chance at an education. You can donate either by visiting our Virgin Money Giving Page here or by transferring funds directly to our bank account: Barclays Bank Sort Code: 20-29-23 Account Number: 3368750 Please mention “Christmas Kickstarter Appeal” in the reference. This September, the United Nations will commit to the new Sustainable Development Goals, which will succeed the Millennium Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals outline a new and ambitious worldwide effort to reduce poverty and hunger, improve health, enable equality, protect the planet and much more. Real progress will be elusive unless all children receive a quality education. Read here about how education is essential to the success of every one of the 17 new sustainable development goals.
