Kipawa Funded Projects
Since Kipawa's launch, we have concentrated most of our activities around Mukuyu school and Oaklands school. Funds from Kipawa donors have directly funded several capital projects.
Food Store and Kitchen Equipment

One of our first projects was to renovate a food store room at Mukuyu school to ensure that the food for the feeding programme could be kept safely and securely.
We have since supplied the necessary kitchen equipment for the programme, including stoves for cooking rather than the open fire which was previously used. These stoves are more fuel efficient, thereby saving money, and are cleaner and safer for the cooks to use.

Toilets

In 2011 we built new toilet blocks for the boys at Mukuyu and renovated the girls toilets in 2014. The children at the school no longer have to use facilities infested with rats and there has been a marked decrease in incidents of diarrhoea and other water-borne illnesses at the school. Without Kipawa's supporters, these new toilet blocks would not have been possible.
Classrooms and counselling room
Since being involved at Mukuyu, Kipawa has renovated 3 of the classrooms in the school, including a new nursery, and has built 2 new classrooms.
These classrooms are the most modern in the school and provide a much better environment for teaching and learning than those there before. Thanks to Kipawa, children are now attending nursery school who would previously not have had any formal education for another year. We have also provided a new, comfortable, beautifully decorated, cheerful office and counselling room for the counsellor and field workers to work with children individually and in small groups. |
